Bombs Away! Trump’s Christmas Gift to Nigeria

Trump Strikes Nigeria – But Why Sokoto? Why ISIS? What’s Next?

By Mike Arnold

Late Christmas night, the news hit like a bombshell — Trump struck ISIS in Sokoto State, Nigeria. For weeks, online chatter had been thick with disappointment. “Trump’s not going to act.” “He’s taking too long.” All of that flipped in an instant.

Across Nigeria, Christians celebrated. “The best Christmas gift ever,” many said.

I believe they’re right — and I believe it’s just the beginning.

You don’t see this kind of military movement from the U.S. for a symbolic pinprick. And you definitely don’t get global influencers like Nicki Minaj, Bill Maher, and Netanyahu all on the same message — unless something deeper is happening. The gears of the world don’t turn like this without purpose.

But it raises questions that demand answers:

Why ISIS?
They’re dangerous, yes. But they are not the main killers of Christians in Nigeria right now. That distinction belongs to Fulani militias and Boko Haram. So why start here?

Why Sokoto?
Also puzzling. It’s not the epicenter of violence. In fact, it’s well behind enemy lines — far from where the worst massacres happen.

What role did the Nigerian government really play?
The strike was officially described as “coordinated” with Nigeria. But let’s be honest — that feels more like diplomatic cover than operational reality. Nigeria has every reason to save face. The U.S. has every reason to keep options open.

My take? This wasn’t primarily about humanitarian rescue — even though that should be reason enough. No, this was a signal. A geopolitical opening shot aimed at something bigger: the rise of global jihad in West Africa.

Earlier this year, U.S. AFRICOM Commander General Michael Langley told Congress that this region — specifically northern Nigeria — is now the epicenter of global terrorism. That’s not theory. That’s official U.S. military doctrine.

So maybe this was the first domino. A symbolic entry point. A way to plant the flag and begin the unmasking of what some in Washington now suspect: that Nigeria is not just plagued by terror — many of its elite may be in league with it.

There have been calls to investigate the Sokoto Sultanate as a foreign terrorist entity. It wouldn’t surprise me if that process is already quietly underway.

So what now?

I don’t know. But I know this: You don’t send US forces halfway across the world on Christmas Day unless the next move is already loaded.

And if you’re praying — now’s a good time to pray for wisdom, clarity, and courage. Because whatever’s coming next is bigger than Sokoto.
