If You Launch AI Before Reading This, You’re Gambling With Your Company
Why “The Alignment Imperative: Making AI Work for Your Business” might be the most important book you read this year
Everyone feels it. This isn’t just buzz or background noise anymore—it’s pressure. The pressure of something vast, permanent, and irreversible washing over our world.
The AI tsunami isn’t on the horizon. It’s already here, reshaping everything in its path. And it’s bigger than electricity, bigger than the internet, bigger than any innovation that came before it. AI is not just another wave. It’s the water now. And if you lead anything—a business, a nonprofit, a government office—you’re already in it, whether you realize it or not.
That’s what made this book necessary.
Before sound came to movies, nobody ever yelled “quiet on the set.” Directors barked orders, actors grunted, shoes squeaked, fans buzzed—and none of it mattered. It couldn’t be heard. But when talkies arrived, everything changed. Suddenly, things no one ever noticed—background noise, heavy accents, awkward pauses—became career-ending. Entire studios collapsed. The ones who survived weren’t necessarily the best artists. They were the ones who moved fastest, who understood that the game had changed—and adapted.
We’re in the same moment again. And this time, it’s not about sound. It’s about AI.
The problem is, most leaders are doing what they’ve always done—calling the tech team first. Trying to “get the prompt right,” as if there’s some magic command that can fix years of structural confusion, cultural contradiction, and vague internal language. But that’s not how this works.
Here’s the hard truth no one is saying out loud: Your business is the prompt.
It’s not what you type into the chat that matters. It’s everything your organization has already created—your website, your mission, your SOPs, your reports, your unwritten norms. That’s the real fuel for AI. And if that fuel isn’t clean, aligned, and properly injected, your system may chug along for a while… or misfire… or implode entirely. And take your organization with it.
You may glance at your org chart, your values, your training docs and think it’s all clear. But that’s the silent film mindset. It makes sense to you—because you’ve lived it. But to AI, none of that shorthand, nuance, or unspoken culture exists. It doesn’t hear the subtext. It doesn’t understand “that’s just how we do things.” It doesn’t share your institutional memory. If you don’t align your knowledge with how AI thinks—explicitly and carefully—it will fill in the gaps on its own. And it will get it wrong. At scale. Fast.
AI doesn’t run on your intention. It runs on your systems. If your enterprise knowledge is fractured, misaligned, or propped up by unwritten rules only senior staff remember, the machine will turn those gaps into code—and execute them without hesitation. The damage will be real.
That’s why I wrote The Alignment Imperative. Because I’ve seen what happens when smart, well-meaning leaders implement powerful tools without first cleaning the fuel. I’ve done it myself. And I’ve learned, painfully, what happens when your knowledge isn’t ready.
It doesn’t matter how visionary, sincere or tech-savvy you are. If your systems, workflows, policies, values, and definitions don’t match—AI will scale your dysfunction. Fast. With zero remorse.
This book introduces a concept I call Enterprise Knowledge Alignment—a practical process that saved my own work from blowing up, and has helped guide cities, ministries, startups, and nonprofits through the real work of making AI a multiplier of wisdom, not chaos.
This isn’t a tech book. It’s a leadership book for an AI-powered world. It’s for the CEO who wants clarity before code. The pastor who senses a deeper shift. The nonprofit leader who knows that vague mission statements don’t scale. It’s for anyone with responsibility, conviction, and the willingness to lead with clarity before they hand the reins to a machine.
If you launch AI before reading this, you’re taking a massive risk. But if you don’t engage AI at all—if you sit on the sidelines while others align and deploy—you’re risking even more. You’ll be outpaced, outmaneuvered, and eventually replaced.
I’m not being dramatic. I’m being clear. I’ve lived this. I was the first small-town mayor in Texas to formally implement AI in city government. I’ve applied these principles in African mission fields, in governance, in business strategy, and in spiritual leadership. This is hard-won wisdom, shared so others don’t have to learn the hard way.
You don’t have to be technical. But you do have to be clear. Because AI is already here—and it’s about to scale whatever you give it.
