Interest Rate Sabotage: Why Trump Is Right to Go After Powell
By Mike Arnold
Trump is absolutely right to call out Jerome Powell—and it’s about time more Americans understood what’s really happening.
While the rest of the developed world embraces lower interest rates to fuel growth and investment, Powell’s Federal Reserve is doing the opposite—slamming the brakes on America’s economy while pretending to fight a war on inflation that’s already cooled. The result? A sucker punch to U.S. property values, small business growth, and working-class families—while handing foreign investors a golden opportunity to feast on American assets.
Let’s put it in plain numbers.
America’s federal funds rate sits at 5.25%—one of the highest among developed economies. Japan, the #1 foreign investor in the U.S., is operating at just 0.10%. Germany, Canada, the UK, and the Netherlands—also top-tier investors here—are all below us, with rates in the 3.5–4.75% range. In other words, overseas capital can borrow cheap abroad, then buy premium American assets and yield higher returns—because Powell is keeping rates artificially high here at home.
That’s not monetary policy. That’s a rigged game.
When interest rates are this high in the U.S. compared to other major economies, it distorts the whole playing field. Our businesses pay more to expand. Our families pay more for mortgages. Meanwhile, Japanese, Canadian, and German capital floods into our markets, buying up real estate, farmland, and companies with artificially boosted margins—all while Americans are priced out.
This isn’t just economic negligence. It’s a betrayal of national interest.
The globalists know what they’re doing. They see the storm coming. And they’re using Powell’s Fed as a pressure valve to bleed the brakes on an America First comeback. This is a desperate play to prevent Trump from unleashing the true potential of our economy. Because make no mistake—the fundamentals are all there. The energy, the capital, the innovation, the grit—it’s waiting to roar. But Powell’s chokehold is denying the spark.
And here’s the other dirty secret: China and Saudi Arabia may not top the official FDI lists, but they don’t need to. Saudi capital is flowing through sovereign wealth funds and U.S. tech partnerships. China’s presence—though reduced due to scrutiny—is still strategically embedded through proxy holdings, joint ventures, and dollar-denominated asset positions. In short, the people with the cheapest money are buying up the future of a country whose own citizens can barely afford today.
It’s upside-down. And it’s not by accident.
This is economic warfare wrapped in bureaucratic clothing. Powell doesn’t get to hide behind the Fed’s “independence” while presiding over the most lopsided global capital advantage in a generation. He’s not neutral. He’s not cautious. He’s part of the problem.
It’s time to stop playing defense. The economy is ready. The people are ready. The runway is clear. All we need is the spark. Drop the rates. Let the engine roar. And send a message to the world: America isn’t for sale. Not anymore.
