A wrong turn into hidden
genocide.

Seven years of danger to expose
the truth.

Her courage lights the way.

Me & Ms. Hanatu follows the Seven-year journey of a small-town American who stumbles into a Nigerian refugee camp and makes a promise to a displaced schoolteacher: “I will tell your story.” That promise leads into a hidden world of cover-ups, loss, and quiet conviction—where a genocide unfolds in silence, and a few unexpected lights push back the darkness, rescuing children from a cycle of destruction into resilience and hope.

About the Film

Me & Ms. Hanatu is an investigative feature documentary currently in post-production. Filmed over five years across burned villages, refugee camps, morgues, and checkpoints in northern Nigeria, the film exposes a hidden genocide — and the global system that allowed it to happen.

It follows a small-town Texas mayor who made a promise in a forgotten camp and refused to walk away. What he captured wasn’t just suffering. It was friendship, resistance, and proof.

At the center is a woman who lost everything — and still chose to teach.

Aisha Philibus was 25 years old — bright, ambitious, and building a future from the rubble of crisis. She lived for six years in a displaced persons camp, worked two jobs, and had a growing online platform.

When a treatable infection turned serious, she was denied care unless her step-brother paid a bribe. She died in a hospital bed — then was held hostage in the morgue unless another illegal payoff was made. Hospital staff assaulted our team when we went to retrieve her body.

What happened to her wasn’t rare. But it was recorded. And it’s now it’s a thread that twists through this tale.

Me & Ms. Hanatu isn’t just one story. It’s a record of many — of how people like Aisha were erased, and why that ends now.

Current Status: Post-Production

Me & Ms. Hanatu has entered post-production after six years of field filming across refugee camps, conflict zones, and government corridors. With a full narrative structure locked and over 80 hours of exclusive 4K footage in hand, the project now moves into the editorial, scoring, and legal clearance phases. A rough cut is in development, the trailer is in late-stage build, and short-form clips have already begun to generate online traction. No release date has been set, but the team is targeting a major global launch through top-tier festivals and the Let Us Rise & Shine premiere event. Final funding is now being secured to complete editing, secure music licenses, and finalize distribution pathways.
