The Sokoto Caliphate’s Hidden Holocaust, Finally Counted

The Sokoto Caliphate’s Hidden Holocaust, Finally Counted

222 years. One machine. Same agenda, same bloodline, same throne, same results.

4.3 million killed. 13.2 million enslaved. 20.5 million driven from their homes. Since 1804. Still counting.

The winners write the history books. What if the Nazis had won?

The Holocaust would be a conspiracy theory. Denied. Spun. Purged from the media. Anyone who spoke of it would be a fringe lunatic. Israel wouldn’t exist. And somewhere down the line, America would be fighting Nazis on its own soil.

You don’t have to imagine that world. It exists. It’s called Nigeria.

Yad Vashem has four million names catalogued, working toward six million, one Jew at a time. They are remembered. Nigeria’s dead have no museum. No wall. No name. Until now.

I want to be exact about what I’m claiming. This isn’t a contest for who suffered more. A dead child in Kaduna is not less dead than a dead child in Auschwitz. But there’s one difference worth naming: Hitler gave the Jews no exit. Nigeria’s jihadists do — convert, submit, live. That “mercy” is the whole horror. Forcing a human being to renounce his God at the point of a machete isn’t a lesser crime than murder. It’s a different one. This is jihad.

I built something so nobody has to take my word for any of it. An interactive timeline, live at mikearnold.org — Nigeria: 222 Years, One Machine — every year since 1804, with a full paper behind it showing the math on every figure that isn’t a hard fact. Click anything. Check anything.

Here’s what it found.

1804. A Fulani scholar named Usman dan Fodio declares jihad on the Hausa kingdoms of northern Nigeria and builds the largest pre-colonial empire in Africa — on conquest, raiding, and slavery. He calls it the Sokoto Caliphate. The founding war kills roughly a quarter million people. No historian will give you an exact number, so I won’t pretend to have one — it’s labeled an estimate, not a fact, the way every honest number should be.

The raiding never stopped. For the rest of the century, the Caliphate builds an enslaved population that peaks above two million — half of everyone under its rule, according to Paul Lovejoy, the historian who’s spent his life on this exact empire. Historians call it the largest enslaver of free Black Africans anywhere in the 19th-century world, and the word matters: an enslaver takes a free person and makes them a slave. A trafficker moves people already enslaved. A holder just owns and works them. Most of what gets called “the world’s biggest slavery” doesn’t actually qualify. Antebellum American planters were holders, not enslavers — after 1808, their enslaved population grew almost entirely through birth into a system already built, not through capturing free people. Even the transatlantic trade’s real enslavers weren’t the Europeans buying at the coast — they were the African kingdoms doing the capturing inland: Dahomey, Oyo, Asante. Dahomey ran that operation for roughly a century and a half before France shut it down in 1892. This machine has been capturing free people — not breeding them, not buying them, capturing them — for 222 straight years. It’s still doing it this morning.

Nobody had ever counted the deaths behind that number. I found the receipt: a Fulani emir named Hamman Yaji kept a diary of his own raids. Two hundred killed, two thousand sixteen captured. Apply that ratio to everyone who actually passed through that system over ninety years, and you get roughly seven hundred sixty thousand killed capturing people — plus, separately, an estimated two point four million more who died in bondage itself, of any cause. Not murdered. Worked and starved to death. I’m keeping those two numbers apart on purpose. Collapsing them together would be sloppier than either one alone.

1836. Gawakuke. A coalition tries to break free. The Caliphate crushes it. Twenty to twenty-five thousand dead in one battle.

1903. Britain finally breaks the Caliphate by force — and keeps it anyway. “Indirect rule.” Same emirs, same Sharia, new flag. Three years later, near Sokoto, a village called Satiru rises up — fugitive slaves and peasants who’d had enough of both the British and the Fulani aristocracy collaborating with them. They kill the British officers sent to negotiate. Britain answers with a punitive column of Maxim guns and a field gun — and the Sultan’s own cavalry rides alongside them. Two thousand Satiru men are cut down. Three thousand women and children are captured and handed over to the Sultan, parceled out among the same aristocracy the village had risen against. The village is burned to the ground, then leveled — “no wall or tree left standing.” The Sultan curses the site and forbids anyone from ever rebuilding it. It’s stood empty for more than a century. Britain later gave that Sultan an honor for his cooperation. In 1953, a mob kills forty-six Igbo Christians in Kano. Thirteen years before the massacre everybody actually remembers. Same city. Same fault line. Nobody connects the two.

Biafra

1966: coordinated massacres in a dozen cities kill up to thirty thousand Igbo in months. Half the dead are children. A million or two flee south with nothing. Biafra declares independence. Nigeria’s response, on the record from a federal spokesman: “Starvation is a legitimate weapon of war and we have every intention of using it.” By 1969, a thousand children a day are dying. I’ve walked those streets in Owerri. On May 29 that year, a twenty-year-old Jewish-American student named Bruce Mayrock set himself on fire on the UN lawn with a sign begging the world to save nine million Biafrans. He died the next day. Nobody moved.

Biafra falls in January 1970. Every Igbo bank account is seized. Survivors get twenty pounds and a shove out the door.

I lock this death toll at three million, and I’ll tell you exactly why. Not Nigeria’s number — declassified British files show Harold Wilson lied to his own Parliament about how hard Britain was arming the side doing the starving, while an aide privately warned that pulling out would cost two hundred million pounds in oil money. Not the low end either — missionaries on the ground put it as high as five and a half million. Three million is the number that sits between what the guilty will admit and what the witnesses saw. It’s a judgment call. I’m telling you it’s one instead of dressing it up as a citation.

It never ended

The throne dan Fodio built in 1804 absorbed the British conquest, survived independence, and still runs the machine today. It didn’t end in 1903. It changed its uniform. Twice. The current Sultan of Sokoto — twentieth in the line — spent 2003 to 2006 as Nigeria’s defense attaché to Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq, the exact years American forces were reporting Nigerian fighters embedded with the Taliban. He came home and took the throne just as the modern jihad went nationwide.

Since 2009: 190,150 documented dead. 128,750 Christians. 61,400 moderate Muslims killed for refusing to join in. Nearly two thousand churches burned. On March 12, 2026, a man radicalized in Nigeria walked into an ROTC classroom at Old Dominion University in Virginia and murdered Army Lt. Col. Brandon Shah. This machine has already drawn blood on American soil.

The full 222-year count: 4.3 million killed. 13.2 million enslaved. 20.5 million driven from their homes — some more than once, which is why I won’t call that last number a headcount of individual faces. It’s a count of documented displacements. Still one of the largest displacement crises alive today.

Who’s protecting it

Nigeria calls captured jihadists “prodigal sons,” gives them free housing and schooling, and sends them home in six months. More than half go back to killing. It calls its own displaced “beggars” and bulldozes their camps. The International Crisis Group calls the whole thing “farmer-herder conflict” — a framing built by a Soros-funded adviser and swallowed whole by nearly every newsroom in the West. The man deciding what fifty million Nigerian children learn about their own country’s history is a self-described Boko Haram scholar whose own name translates to “Western education is forbidden.” Abuja spends millions a year on Washington lobbyists to keep the story exactly this muddy.

None of that started in Nigeria. It started in London, in 1968, with a prime minister lying to his own Parliament to protect an oil contract while children starved.

Go to Nigeria: 222 Years, One Machine. Drag it from 1804 to this morning. Click 1836. Click 1966. Click today. Every number opens to its source. The people who’ve spent 222 years burying this story are good at attacking a number. Let them come for this one.

Now you know. Go look for yourself. Then tell someone.

Very detailed line of events. Awesome Chief.

  2. 100% correct.

  3. Great work Mike. And this fits with what is happening not just in Nigeria, but accross the world. I remember the Biafran war. It was my first introduction to the horror of war, although i was too young to understand it, I have never forgotten it. I have been supporting a displaced Biafran family for the past 3 years. I have offered a home and refugee sponsorship under the CORS process in New Zealand. While it does not stop the wider problem, it is something I can do, and I have not stopped fighting for this family. Would you contact me? I need good reliable advice, and I trust you to give it to me. God bless 🙏

  4. Reading this gives me a goose pimples, this is horrible. Mike Arnold you are called for this purpose, continue, your work is already saving souls for christ

  5. The amazing thing about all this is that for centuries the conspiracy against freedom of accurate, accessible information on the Sokoto Caliphate and the Nigerian civil war has succeeded so well!

I pray that one day, like Saul on his way to Damascus God will arrest all the perpetrators of all this evil and wickedness and judge them accordingly.

After more 200 years, an obscured fact about the Fulanis suddenly becomes bare.

They thought and hoped it lasts for as long as they take control over almost every single position of administration so that Nigeria falls to their diabolical scheming but heaven say no.

Soon there will be no more Fulanis nor the ignoble “Pulaku Initiative” agenda owing to the rude awakening that have swiftly opened the inner eyes of most indigenous citizens of Nigeria.

Shame on all Fulanis begging from the b@stard known as Usman Dan Fodio

  8. This is an eye opener to the horrors that has been going on in this part of Africa for over 200 years. It’s time to call a spade a spade. Fulanis have no plans of stopping their terrorism. The only way to stop them is divide Nigeria.
Thanks Mr.Mike for shining the light on this monster!
