Welcome to the Show — A Quick Guide for Our Guests

Nigeria This Week with Mike Arnold

Thank you for agreeing to appear as a guest on Nigeria This Week with Mike Arnold. We seek to maintain the highest standards — and that starts with you looking and sounding your best. This is a live broadcast seen across Nigeria, the diaspora, and beyond, so a few simple preparations make a world of difference.

Please read this through before your appearance. It only takes a few minutes, and it will help everything go smoothly.

1. Get your phone ready

Most of our guests join on a phone, and that works perfectly — just set it up right: (SEE IMAGE BELOW)

  • Turn it sideways (horizontal). Hold or prop your phone in landscape, not upright. This fills the screen properly for television.
  • Clean the lens. Wipe the camera with a soft cloth. A smudged lens is the most common reason a guest looks blurry.
  • Prop it up, don’t hold it. Lean your phone against books, a cup, or anything steady, at about eye level. A shaking picture is distracting; a still one looks professional.
  • Silence notifications. Put your phone on Do Not Disturb so calls and messages don’t interrupt you on air.
  • Charge it, or keep it plugged in. A live segment can run long. Don’t let your battery die mid-sentence.

2. Check your internet

A strong connection is the single most important thing.

  • Use the best connection you have — Wi-Fi if it’s reliable, or strong mobile data.
  • Get close to your router, or to a window if you’re on mobile data, for the best signal.
  • Ask others in the house to pause heavy downloads or streaming while you’re on.
  • Test it beforehand if you can. If your area has unstable power or network, have a backup ready — a second SIM or a nearby location with better signal.

3. Set up your space

  • Find a quiet room. Close windows and doors to keep out street noise, generators, and traffic.
  • Face a light source — sit facing a window or a lamp, so your face is well-lit. Never sit with a bright window behind you, or you’ll appear as a shadow.
  • Keep the background simple and tidy. A plain wall is perfect.
  • Tell others you’ll be live. Let family or colleagues know not to walk in or interrupt during your segment.

4. Joining the show

  • You’ll receive a link by email or WhatsApp before the broadcast.
  • Simply tap the link — it opens right in your browser. There’s nothing to download.
  • Enter your name when asked, so we can identify you.
  • Join early — please connect 10–15 minutes before your segment so we can check your sound and picture.
  • Allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks.

A few last things

  • Wear solid colors if you can — busy patterns can shimmer on screen.
  • Look at the camera lens, not at yourself on the screen — it feels like you’re speaking to the audience directly.
  • Speak naturally. You were invited because your voice matters. Relax, and let it come through.

We are honored to have you. Thank you for lending your voice to the truth.
